Policy

Editorial policy

Where the line between the commercial side of this site and the published content sits.

Coverage is not for sale

Every agreement in the CFPB database that discloses enough terms gets a page, whether or not we have any commercial relationship with the issuer. No issuer can buy a page, buy a better position in a list, buy a change to the analysis, or buy the removal of an unflattering figure. The policy exists so that the answer is settled in advance of anyone asking.

Ordering is by the data

Every comparison list on this site is sorted by a disclosed value — lowest rate, lowest fee, longest grace period — and the sort is stated on the page. No list is hand-arranged, and compensation is not an input to any ordering.

Paid links are labelled

Links to issuer application pages carry rel="nofollow sponsored" and route through a redirect that records the click. Some of these are or may become compensated. The footer of every page says so, and no analysis changes because a link pays.

No scores, no picks

We publish no ratings, no rankings and no "best card" recommendations. A filed agreement is a pricing and obligations document; it says nothing about rewards, service, benefits or approval odds. A score built only from pricing would look authoritative while leaving out most of what makes a card good or bad, and we would rather publish no score than a misleading one. This also means no Review or AggregateRating structured data appears anywhere on the site, because there is no rating to describe.

Corrections

Where a figure is wrong we fix it and, where the error was material, say so on the page. The linked filing is always the authority. Send corrections through the contact page; a pointer to the specific figure and the page of the PDF it came from gets fixed fastest.

How the content is produced

The analysis on each card page is generated from that card's own disclosed figures, compared against the whole corpus, under editorial rules set out in the methodology. It is not written by hand per card — there are 2,992 of them — and it is not free-form generated text either. It states what the filing says, what it omits, and how the numbers compare, and it is constrained so that it cannot assert a figure the filing does not contain.
